Pension Wise

Following changes announced in the 2014 Budget, people with defined contribution pensions now have a range of options to access their pension pot once they are aged 55.

How we can help

Citizens Advice provides free and impartial guidance to help you understand your pension options and how they relate to your own situation so that you can make informed choices.

Guidance sessions will be tailored to your individual circumstances and may include explaining terminology, talking through pension taxes, helping you think about the things you may need the pension for (such as care costs) and implications on means-tested benefits.

You can receive free Pension Wise guidance if you are aged 50 or over and have a defined contribution pension pot. A defined contribution pension is one where you build up a pot of money to use when you retire which is invested and the investment effects how big the pot will be when you take it.

Local Pension Wise face-to-face guidance is provided by Citizens Advice Maidstone but you can have an appointment at our Sittingbourne office. Contact us to check your entitlement and book an appointment.

You can also get online self-help guidance at PensionWise.gov.uk and telephone guidance from the Pensions Advisory Service on 0300 123 1047.
