Success: Empowering clients to manage debt

Our client had a number of catalogues and loans they were struggling to pay due to an increase in living costs. We went through a budget plan with them to determine how much available income they had after paying essential expenditure, other household bills, travel, communications and leisure, housekeeping and personal costs.

Our client has a disability which required additional support during their face-to-face appointment.

We discussed with the client their debt options and they decided they wanted to make pro-rata offers to creditors. They found it difficult to negotiate with creditors but did not want to enter into a debt management plan. We negotiated with the client’s creditors on their behalf and they all accepted the offers of payment and agreed to stop interest and charges. The client is now able to pay their debts at an affordable rate.

The client’s circumstances may improve in the near future to enable to them to make increased payments to clear their debts quicker. The client can return to us at that time if they require help to make new offers to creditors.

Well done to Scott, our Money Adviser.Â
