Success: Increasing our client’s income by over £6,000

Our client is single. Their child has just left education, and therefore their income is reducing by a considerable amount. Both our client and their child have health issues, neither are able to work, and they’re struggling financially.

After speaking with our client to determine how we can support them, our adviser:

  • Issued a fuel bank voucher, £31.
  • Issued three British Gas Energy Trust fuel vouchers, £49 each.
  • Requested a £100 prepaid fuel/water card from Children & Families.
  • Submitted an application for a cooker from the British Gas Energy Trust White Goods Fund.
  • Issued a food bank voucher.

Our adviser also discussed the following, which the client could do to further assist themselves:

  • Challenge a Council Tax Support decision, if not successful.
  • Apply to reduce South East Water bills.
  • Consider applying for PIP.
  • Consider contacting a free money advice provider, to reduce payments to non-priority debt.

Approximate value to our client for year one: £6,467. If they have successful claims for benefits, some of this figure will be ongoing.

Well done to Denny, our Financial Capability & Energy Awareness Project Worker
